Olivia update

Another Olivia update...
I switched my darling little girl to the Lamb & Rice formula. Since swithcing her food, she's not had any hives, splotchyness in the face, no red bumps inside the ears, no vomiting, and no more accidents in the house. Yea!!!!
She's back to her sweet, lively little self, with normal pink skin. :)

Christmas shopping

Yes, I'm one of the millions of crazed shoppers that hit the stores at 5am on the morning after Thanksgiving.
I usually scour the ads the day before, looking for the bargains I can't live without, then arrive about 10 minutes before opening time. I'm not quite senseless enough to stand out in front of the stores for hours on end, waiting to be let in. I'm not that desperate for a bargain. And I've never been disappointed or left-out of the deals I was after by doing so.
This is the first year I've ever had the day after Thanksgiving off from work, so in years past, I've always been a bit rushed to get in, get my bargain then get on to work. But this year I was off and was able to take my time and enjoy the frenzied masses.
Our t.v. in the living room blew up several weeks ago, so I've been telling the husband to have patience and wait 'til the day-after sale and we'd see if there were any good bargains. As it turned out, Wal-mart had a 20" flat-screen tv w/built-in dvd player for $98. It was an off-brand, but my house is filled with off-brands that work just fine.
Since the husband was off work too (still off from foot-surgery), I laid out our game-plan: I was going to Wal-mart for the 5am sale to get the tv. He was to go to Kohl's for their 5am sale to get something for our camper. John said he was packed into the vestibule at Kohls like a sardine and worried about being able to keep up with the rush of shoppers once the door was unlocked, as his foot is still in a post-surgical shoe and he still can't put a lot of weight on it. A fellow shopper promised him if she got to the shelf first, she'd grab one for him too. His fellow-shopper was good to her word as John was run over in the rush, and she grabbed one for him as well. The Christmas spirit is alive!
I arrived at Wal-mart and almost panicked! They were already allowing customers to shop. I worried that I'd miss out on my t.v., and rushed around the store looking for it.
In case you've never shopped Wal-mart's day-after sale, let me lay it out for you...
They put the "special"/hot items on pallets, wrap them in black plastic, then set the pallets in areas of the store that has nothing to do with the item at hand, meaning that electronic items are likely to be found in produce or dairy.
I found our t.v. There were 3 or 4 pallets, stacked 3 high, so no shortage of t.v.s. The pallets were located in the back, between dairy and the cafe. There was no need for me to worry, the store was allowing shopping for general mdse., but the special items wouldn't be unwrapped until 5am. So I staked out my spot along with another dozen or so shoppers and counted down the minutes.
It was actually quite entertaining to stand back and listen to the other maniacs around me. One woman in particular provided me with lots of blogging material, and some insight into the behavior of the savage shopper mentality.
This woman (I'll call her "drill sgt.") had brought along her husband and her younger sister (I assume). The sister's name was Mandy. The husband was already at his assigned spot in the store, but Drill Sgt. was giving Mandy instructions like a new recruit going through boot-camp... As Drill Sgt. showed Mandy a diagram of the store, she pointed out: "We're here. You need to go to the clothing section and wait. Now Mandy, BE AGGRESSIVE!! GO! GO! GO!!!!!"
I kid you not, this was the actual orders issued by the Drill Sgt.
As poor Mandy stumbled off in a daze, the Drill Sgt. just shook her head and sighed, then commented to a nearby shopper that this was Mandy's first time (meaning, first time shopping at such an early hour, the day after Thanksgiving). The fellow shopper commiserated and said, "Ah, then she'll be a seasoned shopper before the day's through."
Drill Sgt. said with a note of scorn in her voice, "She actually wanted to put make-up on before coming here", as if this would have been a major sin. "You should have seen her when we walked in here. I said, 'Mandy, get a cart', but the other shoppers swarmed her and she was left standing there, no cart, with this deer-caught-in-the-headlight look on her face."
As the minutes were winding down, Drill Sgt's husband suddenly showed up to tell his wife something. The poor man! She unleashed all her fury on him. "Why are you over hear talking to me? You're supposed to be over in toys!! Now get back to your post!!" Then she commented again to the fellow shopper, "Can you believe him leaving his area?" The nerve of some people!
Five a.m. arrived and the hapless Wal-mart employee started to cut the plastic. I don't know why he even bothered. As soon as he made a move for the plastic wrap, the shoppers took over and started ripping it away. The tvs were disappearing at an alarming rate. I grabbed one and just missed cold-cocking the employee in the head with the large box.
I grabbed a couple of more items on the way out. John, who I had already spoken to 1/2 dozen times or more on the phone in the past 10 minutes, had already made his purchase at Kohls and was waiting by my car to help me load the tv.
We then headed for the ACE Hardware in Crestwood, but it didn't open 'til 7am, and it wasn't even 5:30 yet. So we had breakfast at the Dairy Queen, which had opened an hour early in anticipation of a crowd due to the shopping craze. However, the husband & I had the restaurant to ourselves.
We then re-evaluated our game plan and I sent him to the hardware store to wait while I went to Michaels craft store. John got the 2 items I'd sent him to find, while I didn't get what I wanted at Michaels, but did get a bunch of stuff I neither wanted or needed.
We then met back at the house and spent the rest of the day trying to recuperate. John expressed how much fun he'd had and wished he could do that every year. Hmmm, maybe in the future we'll have to start taking our vacation the week of Thanksgiving instead of the week after as we normally do.

Confused!

I've been surfing the 'net, looking up info about bladder infections and food allergies in canines.
The info on the food allergies has me so confused!
For years, we (or at least, "I") have been taught that we shouldn't feed a variety of foods to our dogs, but stick to one kind of food. Otherwise, feeding a variety would lead to stomach upset or sensativity and finicky eaters.
Because of these lessons, I've been good about sticking to one kind of food, until it was time to change, generally because of age/growth, and even then, I was taught to wean the dog from one food to the other.
So now I'm reading on the 'net that we shouldn't feed our dogs the same food all the time, because that leads to sensativity and/or allergies, and is "boring" for the dog.
AAARGHH!!!!
I wish they'd make up their cotton-picking minds!!!!!!!!!

Phone Books

I feel the need to take a moment and blog about one of my many pet-peeves: Phone Books.
In the past two weeks, we've had at least 3 different ones delivered to us, and I know there are at least 2 more probably that have yet to be delivered.
So I ask you, do we really need all these phone books? They all have the same info in them... basically.
We get the Louisville White pages, which does have a small, business section and a section for local, southern Indiana numbers.
We get the Greater Louisville Yellow pages.
We get a smaller version of the yellow pages to keep in our cars.
We get the Transwestern, Eastern Jefferson Co. phone book.
We get the "User Friendly" book, which I must say, is the most "user un-friendly" phone book I've ever used in my life. I know I'm not alone in that opinion. Several people I know have expressed the same complaint. That one we don't even keep around, it goes directly into the trash.
Here at work, we also get the Transwestern Oldham Co. edition,
as well as the BlueBook phonebook, which lists several of the smaller, out-lying counties.
**Sigh** Is it any wonder that the forests are dwindling? If we could get it down to just 2 phone books, think of all the paper, not to mention shelf space, that could be saved.
I say, print one white pages that lists Jefferson, Oldham, Trimble, Henry, Bullitt, Shelby Cos. in KY, plus Clark & Floyd in Indiana. And, a yellow pages that covers those areas as well.
Eliminate all the others.
Transwestern books... don't need 'em. ***
User Friendly books... don't need 'em.
Automobile books... don't need 'em.
The only good thing I will say about the Transwestern books is this: they have a listing in the front of their books that lists streets and the zip codes. That's a nice feature.

More Drama

Never a dull moment around our house. Gee, how I long for some dull days/nights where nothing happens. Nobody (human, canine or feline) gets sick, nothing breaks down or catches fire, just a dull evening.
So the continuing saga of Olivia's illness goes as follows...
When I arrived home yesterday evening, she finally appearred to be back to normal. No hives or welps, no swollen nose or lips.
By 8:30 last night though, she had started breaking out again, just a few spots on her shoulder. Also, her nose, eyes, lips and ears had red splotches all over them. All evening she aggressively chewed on a cow-hoof, only stopping long enough to paw at her face or bite on her toes. I finally had to take the hoof away just so I could get some sleep.
I gave her a dose of Benadryl and crossed my fingers.
She woke me up at 4:30 this morning, throwing up. The hives were gone, but the splotchy red spots were still on her face.
By 8am when I left for work, the splotchyness had subsided.
She did however vomit 1 more time, and has been shaking her head vigorously off and on.
I called our vet this morning and caught him up on what was going on. He feels that maybe she's developing an allergic reaction to her food and wants me to try her on some Lamb & Rice formula.
So if that works, that means the 150 lbs. (+/-) of puppy food that I recently bought for her is no longer any good. Hopefully our breeder might buy it from me.
And on top of everything else... the steroidal injection she received Monday night has had her peeing like a race-horse, IN THE HOUSE! I've cleaned up more pee accidents in the past 48 hours than in the first two weeks she lived with us! I did four loads of Olivia-laundry yesterday, and one this morning, that's how bad it is. And I'm even taking her outside like once every hour to 90 minutes (if not more often). My carpets are definately getting steam-cleaned this weekend!!!

I just love...

I just love our outdoor fireplace. It's great for just sitting around and enjoying the night-air, the stars, and the ambiance. It's also great for cooking dinner over. Sometimes it's just me and the husband enjoying some quiet solitude, and at other times it's been known to attract a few friends/family members, anywhere from 2 or 3, upwards of 30. We just never know what will happen when light a fire.
I just love putting on a pair of shoes, especially new ones, that fit, fit well, and are comfortable!

Lumpy-Bumpy

When does it ever end? The trials and tribulations of k-9 parenthood that is. If it's not one thing, it's another. A week and a half ago, Olivia came down with yet another bladder infection. Yesterday she had an allergic reaction to some unknown entity, and it wasn't pretty.
I arrived home shortly after 5pm and let her out of her crate, only to discover that she had a few (less than a dozen I'd say) welps scattered over her body.
Recognizing them for what they were (an allergic reaction to something), I immediately called our family vet to ask him not to leave for the day, as I was bringing Olivia in for a steroid injection. I only got to speak to his assistant who acted as the go-between for our conversation. I explained the situation, and she relayed to me that the vet said just to give her some Benadryl and she should be fine.
Okay, fine. I was somewhat doubtful, but thought that maybe since it wasn't a bad case of hives, that perhaps the Benadryl would nip the reaction in the bud. The vet had said to give her a 100 mlg = 4 tablets. That seemed like an awful lot to me! I take just one and I'm out like a light. I had given a single one to Eliott once and it cured his bee-sting hives and knocked him out. So I compromised and gave her two. I thought if nothing else, she'll sleep really well tonight.
After feeding the children and changing clothes, I dashed out the door to pick up a few groceries and run a couple of errands. I got back home about 7:30 and my poor little Livvie looked like she had mumps! Her hives had increased 10 fold or more. I believe that some of the hives actually had hives of their own. Not only that, now she was scratching at them and nibbling at her skin. I immediately gave her 2 more Benadryl, and silently cussed our vet.
An hour later there was no sign of improvement so my next step was to call the vet's office in Pewee Valley. Yep, the one I dread going to as they cut off Bootsy's tail, but they've become my emergency back-up. I crossed my fingers as I dialed the number and hoped feverently that the vet that did the amputation wasn't on call. Luck was on my side. It was the young vet that had stitched up Eliott back in July.
She agreed to meet us at the clinic in 10 minutes, which actually took us longer as we had to sit for a stupid train at LaGrange Rd. (**Grrrr**). After checking Olivia's heart rate and breathing, she determined that whatever was causing the hives at least was only a dermatological (is that a word?) reaction. Everything else was normal, or at least, unaffected thus far. She gave her an injection of some steroid (as I wish my vet had done!) . I paid the $90 bill, we thanked her then headed home.
Gee, if my vet had only seen Olivia when I asked him to, #1) he'd made some easy money, #2) saved Olivia the physical suffering, #3) saved me the emotional suffering, #4) saved me some money as I wouldnt' have had to pay the "emergency" fee. Grrrr!!! Don't think he isn't going to hear about this!
Olivia was given 4 more Benadryl around 11pm. When she woke me up at 4:30 this morning, the hives had gone down considerably, but weren't entirely gone. I gave her another dose. When I left for work at 8am, there were very few, slight lumps left, and mostly just the swollen area around her nose. Poor little girl.
One last note: as I mentioned before, Benadryl tends to make most people (and animals) very drowsy, and I had high hopes that Olivia would sleep well last night. Well, that wasn't to be the case. It had the reverse affect on her, making her literally bounce off the walls. She ran through the house like a super-charged greyhound at the race-track. I mentioned that to the vet and she said occasionally it does have that effect. I thought, "great", that's all I needed.
Attached are the photos of my poor lumpy-bumpy little girl. Doesn't she look pitiful?

I just love...

"I just love..." this is a new series of blogs I'm going to occasionally post, listing some of the little things I love. Either love to do, love to see, experience, etc.
Feel free to add your comments about the things you love.
**I come out of the bedroom after getting ready for work in the mornings and find Olivia sound asleep in her crate. Then I open the crate door and kneel down beside her and touch her. She lifts her head and opens her sleepy eyes a little and once she sees me, she starts thumping her tail, happy to see me. I just love these moments.
**While I'm busy working at my desk, I pause for a moment to gaze upon the many photos of my k-9 kids, past and present, and some of their closest canine pals over the years, that I have plastered all over my wall. I get a warm feeling thinking about going home to my present k-9 family, and an equally fuzzy feeling remember the good times shared with pups in my past. I just love these little breaks in my workday.

Murder Mystery

As I mentioned in my previous blogging-life, the husband and I were invited (unofficially up until now) to a "How To Host A Murder" dinner party.
The official invites came in the mail yesterday. The murder takes place in the old west (1881). My assigned character is named (please don't laugh!) : "Butch Chastity"
My character's description is as follows: "Legendary Butch Chastity is the first lady of outlaws. Her all-woman gang are the Amazons of the American West. There's nothing coy or dainty about Butch. She can drink her fellow outlaws under the table; she can hold her own in a game of poker; she can rob a stagecoach in record time; and she can kill a man just as soon as look at him... and often does. In her secret hide-out, a place called the Hole in the Mud, Butch plans the most daring of heists, including her many famed train robberies. It has been rumored that Butch has gotten away with more gold than any outlaw alive."
Okay, okay, go ahead and laugh yourselves silly.
Are you finished?
So maybe I am an Amazon. And okay, so there's nothing dainty about me. And I'll admit, I could probably just as soon kill a man (or many a woman) as to look at them. I'll admit to those similarities.
But I have never drank anyone under the table. I don't know how to play poker. I've never committed robbery.
And, am I really that "Butch"?
And let's not even discuss the "Chastity" part of that name!
**sigh** guess I'll have to cut my hair again before next saturday.

Very angry!!

While watching G.M.A. the other morning, I saw a news segment on littering, and what I saw made me VERY ANGRY!!
It's maddening enough these people that dump their garbage out the windows of their cars, flick cigarette butts on the sidewalks, or dump their old furniture and appliances in the woods because they're too cheap to have it hauled away, but when hidden video cameras caught some guy dumping what appearred to be a bag of trash, then it turned out to be a sack full of puppies, well that was just the outrageous end!! I know this is nothing new, and unfortunately people do it all the time, but it just makes me so mad! :<(
Is it really asking too much of my fellow Americans to spay/neuter your pets? Please don't give me any rubbish about it being too expensive. There are too many clinics out there that will do it at a reduced price. And for pity's sake, if your dog does have an unwanted litter of puppies, isn't it better to turn them in to an Animal Rescue/Shelter where they've at least got a chance at being adopted, then to just dump them in the woods where they'll most likely be killed and eaten by wild animals or dumped by the side of the road where they'll most likely be hit by a passing vehicle? How can people be so cruel??
Personally, I say the fines that these people are faced with, assuming they are caught, are laughable. There's no justice there. They should take the offenders (if caught) and drop them into the middle of the wilderness somewhere, like in Alaska or the jungles of South America, without any food, water or clothing, and let the offenders fend for themselves. If they can make it out alive and back to civilization, then fine, maybe they'll have learned a lesson. If not, then oh well, that's justice served.

Holiday decorations

This blog is to the manufacturers and/or stores that make/sell holiday decorations....
What is up with the lack of Thanksgiving decorations?
Oh sure, there are a few slim choices of the plastic clingys that go on our windows, or the cardboard cut-outs for the windows/doors. There are placemats, candles, some bowls, etc. Perhaps a cornucopia (sp?) or scare-crow that can be set out to decorate, but I mean some real decorations.
I don't think I've ever seen any Thanksgiving-themed light-strings.
I've seen party & holiday themed lights for every occasion imaginable, except turkey-day. What gives??

Cancelled credit cards

I learned something today, and just thought I'd share it with you kind folks.
Did you know that if you cancel a credit card (that is of course, paid off), companies can still charge things to them and you're liable for those charges?
I used to subscibe to Ancestry.com back when I still had the time (& the home computer) to work on it. Each year, they just billed my credit card the annual dues.
Also, after our bank was hit earlier last year and someone raided our bank account, I signed up for a free credit check on-line. I still had to provide a credit card number even though it was free for the first 30 days, and after that if I wanted the service, I just paid a yearly fee. I got my free credit-check, but didn't sign-up for the yearly service, but because I didn't notify them, they still charged my card. There's a long story that goes with that also, but I won't bore you with the details.
To make a short story long... I paid off a credit card back in July, and wrote to them and told them to cancel our account. I cut the cards up and thought that was the end of it.
Then, last month I got a statement from Bankcard Services showing two charges that totalled nearly $150.00. I nearly died! One was for Ancestry.com, the other for the credit check place. I called both companies and told them I didn't want their services (renewed). Both promised to credit the amounts back to that credit card.
So this month I get a statement showing where Ancestry.com had refunded it's full amount. The credit check company had refunded all but $10.44 (I don't know why, I'm going round and round with them over that). Also on the statement was a late payment fee of $19.00 and an interest charge of $3 and some change. Again, I almost died.
Not that the $32 was a lot of money, but I was outraged! If Bankcard Services had cancelled the account like I asked back in July, none of this would have happened, saving us all a lot of hassle and time, and I promptly told them so!
But I was informed that it didn't work that way. Just because I had cancelled the account with the credit card company, it didn't mean that charges couldn't come through, especially since the charges were coming from companies that I had a "pre-arranged agreement" with.
I said, "what part of 'cancelling my account' do you not understand?" The girl on the other end proceeded to tell me that I was the one who didn't understand. Well, obviously!!
Apparently it is impossible to ever really 100% cancel an account with a credit card company.

Catching Up...

Catching up... (this is a really long story, consider yourselves warned!)
Where does the time go anymore? It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is only 7 days away. And then the mad rush to get the best deals on Christmas presents starts a few hours after that!
Time just slips by and before we know it, another birthday has crept up on us. I'll be 40 in little more than 2 years, and while it still seems safely in the future, it will be here before I know it.
Now, having mentioned the passing of time and birthdays, let me catch you up on my life's happening this past week...
I was supposed to have a 4-day weekend (off Friday thru Monday), but it didn't work out that way.
Friday, I went with the husband for a follow-up appointment with the orthopaedic surgeon. The pin, staples and stitches were all removed. The doctor was pleased with his progress and applied some kind of crazy bunyon splint. He's still supposed to use the crutches for another week or so, emphasis on 'supposed to'.
That was his first night at home in over two weeks, yea!!, and he opted to sleep in the recliner next to me, thereby bumping Olivia to the crate for the night. She wasn't happy about it. Every 90 minutes or so she woke me up throwing a fit after having peed in her crate. Grrr! She can make it for 6 or more hours when she sleeps in the chair without having to go out, so why not more than 90 minutes when confined to her crate? Out of spite, or so I thought at first. But no, as it turned out, poor little Livvie had come down with yet another bladder infection. When I noticed the bloody urine that had dribbled down her leg the next morning, I felt bad for having accused her of being spiteful. She's now on anti-biotics yet again, only the vet's trying something new. I don't recall the exact name, something like "pass method" or whatever. She takes Keflex twice a day for a week, then goes off meds for a week, then starts a different kind of medicine for a week, then goes off it, then starts it again for another week. We'll see if that finally flushes it out of her system once and for all.
The citizens of this small town I work in have been dropping like flies lately, and there were four funeral calls that came in at once. As a result, I had to come into the office for 1/2 a day on Saturday, and again on Sunday. I was then off on Monday as originally planned, but had my own doctor appointment for that afternoon. I worked Tuesday, then was off Wednesday to make up for having worked the weekend. I don't know if I'm coming or going right now.
John went off with his dad to watch the senior citizens bowl Monday afternoon. Moments after he left, I took our rambunctious dog-ter out for some exercise on her flexi-lead. Now normally when I take her out on the flexi-lead, she holds the end of it in her mouth and runs in circles around me. It reminds me of how a horse exercises on a lead. Olivia has never been one to run until she comes up short on the lead, thereby choking herself &/or pulling my arm out of socket. I think this is why she carries it in her mouth, once she feels it start to become taut, she turns and runs the other way. On this particular day, I was dressed in my only pair of clean jeans (more importantly, fitting jeans), and a white t-shirt with Smokey's picture on it, and an old jacket. My little girl wasn't doing her usual running in circles but just snooping along the ground, so I walked to the back of our property line, then started back towards the front, walking in the grass, along the fence.
All of a sudden, Olivia went racing past me at full throttle, catching me totally unaware. I don't think she had the leash in her mouth this time either. Before I knew what had happened, or had had time to react, she reached the end of the line, but instead of coming up short, she proceeded to pull me behind, much like a small child trying to fly a kite. I went stumbling after her at neck-break speed. My feet and arms were flailing in all directions as I attempted to keep from falling, and to bring her to a halt. In my efforts, I was being drug along while running, and I couldn't help but feel myself falling through space. I didn't want to fall (who does?), but couldn't catch up to the run-away dog, couldn't get my feet underneath me where they belonged, nor could I get her stopped. I tripped and stumbled along for what seemed an eternity, but in reality was probably less than 2 seconds I'm sure, before finally losing all balance and landing face down on the ground, looking like Superman in flight with my arms stretched out before me. Miraculously, I still had hold of the leash, and was only drug for an additional foot or so before Olivia came to a halt.
It's amazing, #1)how things seem to happen in slow motion and #2)the things that you notice while you're possibly on the verge of death, or at the very least, obtaining serious injury. While I was flying through space, I noticed one of our neighbors (from the street behind us), driving past. She was driving slow, and I know she had to have seen me fall. Unless a person had blinders on, I don't know how they could possibly have missed it! But did this person stop to inquire if I was injured or needed any assistance? No!! I couldn't believe it! It wasn't as if I got up right away and she had no reason to believe I didn't need help. No, she just drove on. Witch!!
Once Olivia had stopped dragging her "downed kite" behind her and I came to rest in the area of the yard where I had thankfully cleaned up the poop from only an hour before, I just laid there for a few moments, unable to move. The wind had been completely knocked out of me, and I was trying to get my breath back. Plus doing a mental check to make sure I was actually alive and not having an out-of-body experience. Nothing appeared broken aside from my pride, so I ever so slowly climbed to my feet, cussed the dog, which of course fell on deaf ears, brushed the grass and dirt from my clothes, then gingerly made my way to the house. My shirt was streaked with dirt and grass stains, as were my jeans, so now I had to change clothes before going to the doctor.
I stripped down and checked for scrapes and bruises. While I lost no skin, and nothing has turned purple, I had several tender areas.
It is now more than 72 hours later and I'm still very sore all over, feeling much like I've been in a car-wreck.
Now dressed in frumpy-flopping clothes, I headed off to my doctors appointment which was scheduled for 2pm. I arrived 20 minutes early, signed in, and was called back at about 1:55. I was promptly pointed to the bathroom, told to write my name on a cup, pee in it, then place it in the shelf behind the small door.
Ever notice how badly you might've needed to go to the bathroom before, but once someone demands you fill a cup, you're bladder tends to freeze up? I was lucky to squeeze out a quarter inch into the cup. I opened the little door and found 2 other cups already sitting there. I placed mine next to them and marveled at the varying shades of urine-yellow.
I exited the bathroom and stood there waiting while the assistant finished a personal phone call, telling someone how she was going to start her own business. Okay, so obviously she didn't want to be there any more than I did. She told me to hop onto the scales. Hop? I said, "do I really have to?", just kind of joking with her, and she quickly said, "Nope, I'll just mark you down as 'declined'" and led me to an exam room.
She then asked if they could go on and schedule my next mammogram while I was there. I said "again?" She informed me that every woman should receive their first at age 35, then again at 40 and every year afterward. No sh*t Sherlock! I've already had two, so why do you think I said, "again"? One at 35, then for some stupid reason they sent me back at 36. Tried to send me back for my 37th birthday, but I pointed out that I didn't need to go again. And here they are trying to send me for my 38th birthday too. Sorry, that's one birthday present I really don't want to experience again until I'm 40.
She told me to strip and wrap up in the sheet that was lying on the table. So I stripped myself of everything including my dignity for the 2nd time that day, but retained my socks. I picked up the sheet and unfolded it, and felt that someone must have a bad sense of humor. I doubt that the sheet would have fit over a baby-crib mattress. This sheet was so small, it wouldn't even wrap around me so that the edges touched. Now I know I'm a big girl, but I'm not that big! I felt as if I were trying to cover up with an over-sized handkerchief.
By now it was 2pm, my appointment time, and I now got to sit there and wait, and wait for 25 minutes. To pass the time, I gazed at the décor. There were precisely two pictures on the wall, one behind me of a rose swag, and the one in front of me of dragonflies. Nice scenery, eh? I stared at the picture of the dragonflies for 20 minutes and wondered why on earth anyone would choose to decorate their office with them. The few magazines that were available all pertained to child-rearing, parenting, and being pregnant. Nothing I wanted to read in any of those periodicals. I think they could use some Good Housekeeping or Lady's Home Journal or National Geographics in there for variety. I also noticed that covering the stirrups were oven-mitts. In the past, they were cute/fun designs like cows or pigs. Now they had a floral design on the edge, but the majority of the oven-mitts were covered with some kind of teflon material. Teflon? Are they afraid our feet will stick to the stirrups?
The doctor finally breezed in, did her thing, and was gone in less than 3 minutes. That will be $130 please.
As I was dressing and preparing to exit the room, I noticed a vial sitting on the counter with my swab sample. I looked closer and saw that not only was my name written on it, but so was my social security number. Excuse me? I thought that we had heard enough in the past few years about not using Soc. Sec. Nos. as ID's that these businesses should know better. I mean, what if that vial goes to the lab that my former sister-in-law works at, ends up in her hands, and she either taints the sample, or steals my info, just for spite? I think I'm going to write a letter to the doctors office to complain about their ID-ing process.
When I left the doc's office, the clouds were rolling in and I'd have sworn they looked like snow clouds. I headed to Meijers to get the grocery shopping done early, and moments after I arrived there, the clouds opened up and a down-pour ensued.
Back home, after dinner, I was feeling very bruised and battered from my fall, so I took Vicodin. Since taking 1 never does me any good, I took 2 this time and proceeded to get very fuzzy-headed. John & I attempted to watch a movie, "The Runaway Jury", but I tended to fade in and out of reality. However, what I did see of it, it was a good movie.
Tuesday was a very busy day at work, and I did get Wednesday off, but it was too blasted cold and wet outside to enjoy the day. We watched another movie last night, "The Forgotten". It scared the beejeezus out of me on more than one occasion. I highly recommend it if you like movies that make you scream, as I do.
Now I'm all caught up and things have slowed down again.
Have you missed me?

I'm Baaaack!!

Reality Check

Appreciating what we've got... as most of you know, my husband has been shuffled from one home to another these past two weeks: 5 nights with the neighbors, 5 nights at his sisters, and 5 nights at his dads. I'm very hopeful that he gets to come home tomorrow. : )
As much as I love him and miss him, a small part of me (in the beginning) was almost looking forward to the break... not having to get up at 2:30/3:30/or 4:30 every morning to pack a lunch and fix breakfast. Less laundry, since there'd be no uniforms. Not as much cooking to do.
But the reality of it all has hit me. I love cooking, and cooking for just me is no fun. I'm still getting up between 2:30 & 3:30 every morning as Olivia is hard-wired to get up at that time and refuses to let me sleep any later. And I've had more laundry than ever, as I've been washing a lot of bedding, everytime he switches homes! Yep, I'll be glad when he gets home so things can get back to normal, and I can return to nagging him with love. : )

Having said all that, I heard a song on the radio this morning, one I've always loved but never given any thought to. But hearing the lyrics this morning, got me all misty-eyed on the drive to work, as I thought of my husband of 17 years, 2 months, and 14 days. It's a '70's song by the group Orleans. Allow me to share the lyrics with you:

We've been together since way back when
Sometimes I never want to see you again
But I want you to know, after all these years
You're still the one I want whisperin' in my ear
You're still the one I want to talk to in bed
Still the one that turns my head
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
I looked at your face every day
But I never saw it 'til I went away
When winter came, I just wanted to go
Deep in the desert, I longed for the snow
You're still the one that makes me laugh
Still the one that's my better half
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
You're still the one that makes me strong
Still the one I want to take along
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
Changing, our love is going gold
Even though we grow old, it grows new
You're still the one that I love to touch
Still the one and I can't get enough
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
You're still the one who can scratch my itch
Still the one and I wouldn't switch
We're still having fun, and you're still the one
You are still the one that makes me shout
Still the one that I dream about
We're still having fun, and you're still the one....
