Caribbean Queen, chapter 2

Dear diary
It was so depressing dropping the furbies off at the kennel.  When we arrived home to an empty house my heart hurt so!  And now lying here on the couch with no dogs close by, it's just so lonely in here.  It was even strange eating dinner at the table without at least one dog trying to get a handout.
We finished packing and hope to hit the road early in the morning.
TMI...  I went to the restroom before going to bed and then informed John "it's a vacation now! I just started my period."   Yes indeed, things are starting off on a miserable note.  Would I have it any other way?

Caribbean Queen! Chapter 1

Ah my dear blog, it's been far too long!  But I want to document our first REAL vacation that we've EVER had in our 29 years together.  No visiting family, no taking dogs along with us, no friends going.  Just the two of us, I won't know how to act!!

This trip has been in the planning stage for about 10 months, maybe longer.  Last spring I declared come hell or high water we were taking a cruise this year, so we went on and got our passports taken care of at that time.  Over the next few months it was a matter of deciding when, where, and which cruise line.  Research, research, research.

We don't like to fly, so we wanted a port we could drive to, and finally decided on New Orleans.  We have friends that live there and hadn't seen them in several years so decided to take the opportunity to visit with them, if only for a few hours.

We wanted a cruise with as few children on board as possible (if that's possible), so we chose dead of winter in hopes most children would be in school, and a time that was after Mardi  Gras had passed, so hopefully most of the crazies had returned home by the time we get there.

We asked our friends and family about their cruise experiences and which cruise lines they preferred.  And believe me, everyone put their 2-cents worth in whether we wanted it or not on a variety of topics.  Most of it was welcome advice.

We finally settled on Carnival Cruise line and their ship "Dream", sailing the last week in February.  Ports of call Mahogany Bay/Honduras, Belize, and Cozumel.  Once the big decisions were made and paid for, I could finally start to breathe a sigh of relief.
Of course that's not to say that other issues didn't arise...    John had his two knee replacement surgeries and was still off work, will he be strong enough to handle all the activities?  He of course has been antsy throughout all the arrangements, nervous about going, paranoid about the latest disease outbreak and mosquitos, nervous about weather, sharks, not knowing anybody, you name it, he's dreaded it.

And it didn't help matters a few weeks ago when we saw the news story about the Carnival employee that was killed in a freak elevator accident and a river of blood poured everywhere.  And then the article I saw on page two of the USA Today with the headline that read:  "In Honduras, violence is never far away".  Really?  Why did I have to see that one week before we were to arrive there??

I've started having weird dreams about the pending trip.  Stateroom doors that don't lock and anyone can just walk in.  Strange zombie like children on the ship.  Different things, just enough to make you go "Huh?"

It's now Wednesday afternoon, and there is much to be done over the next day and a half.  Get all the laundry done and start some packing this evening.  Gather all the dogs stuff together, just the thoughts of them going to the kennel and being without them is making my stomach do flip-flops, but I have to keep telling myself they will be okay.
Tomorrow will be a whirlwind of activity with much to do.
'Til we meet again,
Caribbean Queen
