Poor Livvie had to go to the vet. Not one of her favorite places to visit. She's got a sore on the side of her foot, they're treating it for infection w/anti-biotics, if that doesn't cure it, then they'll do a biopsy type thing and see if it's a fungus or something else. On top of all that, she's also got a yeast infection in one of her ears. What a delight it's been chasing her around the house twice a day, wrestling her to the ground and trying to put drops in. To make matters worse, John left yesterday morning to go visit his relatives out of town so I'm having to wrestle with her on my own. **sigh**
I got some crappy news on Saturday. My favorite horse in the whole world has colicked at least twice in the past month, and while it's hopeful that the cause is just the change in seasons and the green grass starting to sprout, there is also a chance that the cause of his colic is from the tumors he had removed from stomach 3 1/2 years ago coming back. That particular type of tumor has a tendency to reappear every few years. If it's determined that the tumors are in fact the cause for his colic, in all likelihood he'll be put down instead of operated on. The center can't afford to keep paying $10k every time he needs a surgery. **sob!!** When I heard this the other day, I had to fight to keep back the tears. I started snapping his photo with my camera (which takes crappy pix) and went in to his stall to give him some lovins'. So hopefully he'll still be there when I get there next weekend and I can take my camera and take all kinds of photos of him. I can't imagine going to the farm each weekend and not getting to see my sweet Sampson.
The weather yesterday was iffy. Very overcast and ominous looking, yet the temperatures were in the 60's and it was pleasant outside. I get tired of just walking around our neighborhood all the time, seeing the same things, so I decided to take Olivia downtown and walk around Waterfront Park, the Bellvadere and the Main Street area. Okay, if I'm being really honest, I also had other motives for wanting to be downtown... Many of the UFC fighters are already in town for the big fight this coming week, so I was wanting to walk around the Yum Ctr., 4th Sreet Live and whatnot, in hopes I might spy one (or more) of them out and about. Didn't happen. I totally forgot there was a U of L game taking place and when I got downtown, traffic and parking was a nightmare! I had to park several blocks to the south of where I wanted to be. Oh well, Livvie and I definitely got our exercise in yesterday walking around downtown. She behaved so very well, sitting automatically when I'd stop at an intersection and not getting ruffled by people that passed by her. She didn't even bat an eye at the two police officers on horseback that walked past us, twice. The weather held off and it was just starting to sprinkle as I was loading her back into the car. Good timing!
We went to BW3's Saturday night to watch UFC 127 on payperview. Grumble, grumble. Very few of the guys I was hoping would win did so. And the main fight of the night ended in a draw. The only plus was that my guy did score 29-28 with one of the judges, but unfortunately, the other two idiots scoring the fight both came up with "draw" (in other words, they couldn't decide who won), so nobody won. Sunzofbeeches!!!
Whenever we go to a restaurant on a regular basis, once we find a waiter/waitress we like, we always try to ask for that person. Once they get to recognize you as one of their regulars, they start to take care of you better than just ordinary, Joe-Blow customers. As the last fight was taking place, I started thinking to myself that I needed to find our waitress and see if I could talk her in to giving me one of the fight-promo posters they had on the wall. She had done that for me last time I asked, so I wondered if I'd be pushing my luck to ask again. As the fight was drawing to a conclusion, she suddenly appeared with one of the posters, already rolled up and a rubber band around it and offered it to me, and I didn't even have to ask. What a sweetheart!! Yeah, that was good for upping the tip that evening. :)

Hint #5
Congrats to those that have figured out what the big mystery is, and thanks for not posting it on the blog so others still have to guess.
In my original post, I mentioned how excited I was and wondered if I'd still feel that way after 1 week, 1 month, 3 months... Well, it will have been 4 weeks as of this weekend, and so far, I'm still absolutely stoked!! I'm loving every minute of it, still excited about the experience and where I'm headed, and hopeful for the future. Life is good!
Ijust love this song. Actually, I love a lot of the Spinners songs, but this one really wants to make me get up and go, go, go!!
Lyrics to: "Working My Way Back To You" by the Spinners
I'll keep working my way back to you, babe
With a burning love inside
Hey, I'm working my way back to you, babe
And the happiness that died
I let it get away
Do-do, do-da, do
(Been paying every day)
Do-do, do-da, do
When you were so in love with me
I played around like I was free
Thought I could have my cake and eat it too
But how I cried over losing you
See, I'm down and out
But I ain't about to go living my life without you
Hey, every day
I made you cry
I'll pay and, girl
'Til the day I die
I'll keep working my way back to you, babe
With a burning love inside
Yeah, I'm working my way back to you, babe
And the happiness that died
I let it get away
Do-do, do-da, do
(Been paying every day)
Do-do, do-da, do
Oh, I used to love to make you cry
It made me feel like a man inside
If I had been a man in reality
You'd be here, baby, loving me
Now my nights are long and lonely
And I ain't too proud, babe
I just miss you so
Girl, but you're too proud
And you won't give in
But when I think about all I could win
I'll keep working my way back to you, babe
With a burning love inside
Yeah, I'm working my way back to you, babe
And the happiness that died
I let it get away
Do-do, do-da, do
(Been paying every day)
Do-do, do-da, do
(Yooooou, you, babe)
My road is kind of long
(Yooooou, you, babe)
I just gotta get back home
Whoa, I'm really sorry for acting that way
I'm really sorry
Ooh, little girl
I'm really sorry for telling you lies
For so long
Oh, please, forgive me, girl
Come on (give me a chance)
Won't you forgive me, girl
Hey (let's have romance)
Ooh, forgive me, girl (let's try again)
Come on, forgive me, girl
I want you over and over
And over and over again
I'll keep working my way back to you, babe
With a burning love inside
Yeah, I'm working my way back to you, babe
And the happiness that died
I let it get away
Do-do, do-da, do

TV listings
For the most part anymore, tv has become a big disappointment to me. Not too much appeals to me of late, which is probably just as well, as I really don't need an excuse to sit around on my tush. My Wednesday night comedies on ABC, "The Middle", "Better with You" and "Modern Family" are pretty much the only laughing I get to do all week. I probably watch more tv in the wee hours of the morning, between 2:30 and 5am, then I do at any other time, and I can usually be found watching some re-run of "Forensic Files" some variety of "Law & Order", or some other criminal justice show, throw in the occasional re-run of "Three's Company" when all else fails.
And then there is my Tuesday night favorite, "Biggest Loser". Personally, I'm rooting for Courtney. She's just the cutest and I hope she does well.
DWTS (dancing with the stars) is getting ready to come back for another season (#12) in just a few weeks. I can hardly wait! It seems hard to believe that it was 5 seasons ago that I got hooked, all because of Cloris Leachman (season 7). And because I got hooked that season, I then got hooked on watching the UFC because of Chuck Liddell appearing on season 9. Funny how things can just snowball like that... one thing leads to another... and here I am now, hopelessly addicted to MMA.
Oh well, that isn't exactly what this blog is about.
I've been rather perturbed lately, and I'm not sure which entity I should write to voice my complaints. I check the UFC's website regularly for shows they have scheduled on SpikeTV, and print off the schedule so I won't miss a minute of the action. I also check SpikeTV's listing for comparison, sometimes there are slight discrepancies. And then of course, there is the tv listings that come with the Sunday paper. I'll have you know, there are times when they are ALL wrong. What gives??? It's a total pain in the rear to set the vcr to record a show, only to find out it wasn't on after all. Or to be doing some channel surfing and discover I'm missing my fights when according to all my lists, they shouldn't have been on. Very upsetting. You just can't trust anybody any more.
I'm slowly trying to wean my husband off of his need to have the tv on in the bedroom while we're trying to go to sleep. It annoys me to no end, because if there's something good on, then I end up trying to watch it instead of trying to go to sleep (we both do). And heaven forbid if I set the timer and it goes off while he's still awake. You'd think the world was coming to an end. Lately, if I can get to bed before him, I plug my ipod into my radio and turn on some relaxing tunes to drift off to. He isn't thrilled with it, but is learning to deal with it (I think).
The commercials that DirectTV (or Dish Network, one of those satellite providers) has had recently about different package options available and the inability to select channels ala-cart has me wondering... why can't we choose the channels we want to watch and just pay for those? WHY do we have to pay for a bunch of channels we never watch? Who made up this rule???

Hint #4
I thought about posting the song "Hey Nineteen" by Steely Dan, but went with this one instead. 10 weeks to the big reveal...
This song is a classic. "Golden Ring" by George Jones and Tammy Wynnette
lyrics:
In a pawn shop in Chicago
On a sunny summer day
A couple gazes at the wedding rings
There on display
She smiles n' nods her head
As he says, "Honey that's for you,
It's not much, but it's the best
That I can do."
Chorus-both
Golden rings (golden ring) with one tiny little stone
Waiting there (waiting there) for someone to take you home
By itself (by itself) it's just a cold metallic thing
Only love can make a golden wedding ring
In a little wedding chapel later on that afternoon
An old upright piano plays that old familiar tune
Tears roll down her cheeks
And happy thoughts run through her head
As he whispers low, "With this ring, I thee wed."
Chorus- both
Golden ring (golden ring) with one tiny little stone
Shining ring (shining ring) now at last it's found a home
By itself (by itself) it's just a cold metallic thing
Only love can make a golden wedding ring
Ooo-ooo
In a small two room apartment
As they fought their final round
He says, "You won't admit it,
But I know you're leavin' town."
She says, "One thing's for certain,
I don't love you any more."
And throws down the ring
As she walks out the door
Chorus- both
Golden ring (golden ring) with one tiny little stone
Cast aside (cast aside) like the love that's dead and gone
By itself (by itself) it's just a cold metallic thing
Only love can make a golden wedding ring
In a pawn shop in Chicago
On a sunny summer day
A couple gazes at the wedding rings
There on display,
Golden ring.

Hell has frozen over! & Hint #3
Hope everyone had a happy Valentines Day (or weekend). Me personally, I was beyond sick. I woke up around 12:30 Saturday morning in the throws of a gall bladder attack. I didn't realize thats what it was at first, but after two hours of lying there in pain, I finally recognized it for what it was. I had my first one about 4 years ago. Miserable, miserable, miserable!! Of course that first time, I had no clue what it was, I just thought I was dying. This time I knew, so I popped a phenergan (sp?) and toughed it out. Drank gallons of water it seemed, only managed to get down a bit of apple sauce and a banana, and then late Saturday night, my 11+ year vomit-free streak came to an end. Relief was instantaneous, if short-lived.
All weekend long, it was wave after wave of nausea and abdominal pain. It never felt severe enough to require going to the e.r., but I called my doctor Monday morning for an appointment and of course she was booked up. Honestly, having a family doctor seems to serve no purpose, they are never available when you actually need them except for physicals and such that you can schedule weeks in advance.
Anywho... Tuesday I was actually feeling pretty good until I ate lunch. The pains started again, though the didn't last as long and weren't as intense.
Oh, and let me just say that Hell has finally frozen over for me. Me, the Dt. Big Red fiend who lives for the taste of the sweet, carbonated red nectar of the beverage gods, suddenly can't stand the taste of it! Two days in a row I've tried to drink one with my lunch, and both days it's been all I could do to stand 2 or 3 sips of the stuff. Is this the end of the line for my relationship with the red-stuff? If so, I've got about 4 cases of the stuff going to waste in my garage. Yes, as I said, I think Hell has finally frozen over.
If that could be a permanent side-effect of having a gall bladder attack, and the lack of desire to eat any/all junk food, I think I could learn to live with an occasional g/b attack now and then. ;)
So on to hint #3 in the big mystery in my life. Nobody has guessed it yet...
The lyrics:
When I was a young boy,
Said put away those young boy ways
Now that I'm gettin' older, so much older
I long for those young boy days
With a girl like you,
With a girl like you,
Lord knows there are things we can do, baby,
Just me and you.
Come on and make it
CHORUS:
Hurt so good.
Come on baby, make it hurt so good.
Sometimes love don't feel like it should.
You make it hurt so good.
Don't have to be so exciting.
Just tryin' to give myself a little bit of fun, yeah.
You always look so invitin'
You ain't as green as you are young
Hey baby, its you.
Come on, girl, now, its you.
Sink your teeth right through my bones, baby.
Let's see what we can do.
Come on and make it
Chorus
I ain't talkin' no big deals
I ain't made no plans myself.
I ain't talkin' no high heels
Maybe we could walk around all day long,
walk around all day long.
Chorus twice
Hey, hey

Hint #2
Thought it was time to drop another hint to the mystery blog from 01/31/11.
The lyrics:
I know it sounds funny but I just can't stand the pain,
Girl, I'm leavin' here tomorrow,
Seems to me girl you'know I've done all I can,
You see I've beg, stole and I've borrowed.
Chorus:
S'why I'm easy ..... easy like Sunday mornin',
It's why I'm easy ..... easy like Sunday mornin'.
Why in the world would anybody put chains on me, yeah,
I've paid my dues to make it,
Everybody wants me to be what they want me to be,
I'm not happy when I try to fake it, oooh.
Chorus: .....
Bridge:
I wanna be high ..... so high,
I wanna be free to know the things I do are right,
I wanna be free ..... just me , oh baby.
Chorus: .....
(repeat the chorus with "cause I'm easy")

Hint #1
I thought it was time to drop a hint (or two, if you're really savvy and pick up on another hidden clue in this blog), referring to my "Something Old, Something New..." blog from earlier this week.
I had a couple of people email me directly, offering up their best guesses.
Sorry, so far only losers, no winners.
Listen to the song below (sorry, no vidoe to watch with it), and perhaps over time you'll be able to piece it along with other clues together and figure out the surprise.
Here are the lyrics, just in case you don't know them or can't understand them:
It was an early morning yesterday
I was up before the dawn
And I really have enjoyed my stay
But I must be moving on
Like a king without a castle
Like a queen without a throne
I'm an early morning lover
And I must be moving on
Now I believe in what you say
Is the undisputed truth
But I have to have things my own way
To keep me in my youth
Like a ship without an achor
Like a slave without a chain
Just the thought of those sweet ladies
Sends a shiver through my veins
And I will go on shining
Shining like brand new
I'll never look behind me
My troubles will be few
Goodbye strange it's been nice
Hope you find your paradise
Tried to see your point of view
Hope your dreams will all come true
Goodbye Mary, Goodbye Jane
Will we ever meet again
Feel no sorrow, feel no shame
Come tomorrow, feel no pain
Now some they do and some they don't
And some you just can't tell
And some they will and some they won't
With some it's just as well
You can laugh at my behavior
That'll never bother me
Say the devil is my savior
But I don't pay no heed
And I will go on shining
Shining like brand new
I'll never look behind me
My troubles will be few
Goodbye stranger it's been nice etc...

Lesson Learned
I've worked at my job (at a funeral home) for 8 years now.
When a person dies, the family members often designate that memorial contributions can be made to a charity in lieu of flowers.
We always set out envelopes near the register book, so that visitors wishing to make a donation can either do so right then, drop it in the "drop box" and then we'll mail it the charity for them, or else the donor can take the envelope with them and mail at their convenience.
Never, not one single time in my eight years, have we ever given the charitable donations to the family members of the deceased to mail.
1) There are too many unscrupulous people out there that would try to keep the funds (cash or check) for themselves and the charity would never see it.
2) There are too many irresponsible or just plain ol' uncaring and lazy people out there, that won't take the time to forward the donations.
3) Some people can't afford the postage if there are numerous donations.
4) Some are probably well meaning, thinking they'll get to it soon as things die down (no pun intended), and by then, they've forgotten about it and or misplaced the donations.
All kinds of reasons not to give the donations to the family members when it's for a charitable cause.
I bring all this up because about three weeks ago, I had a great-uncle that passed away. He didn't have any memorial contributions listed with his obituary, and since I simply refuse to send flowers to funerals, I opted to make a donation to Olivia's pet therapy group. I made out the check, put it in a generic donation envelope at the funeral home (not the one I work at), even writing the address for the charity on the envelope, and dropped it in their donation box.
Two+ weeks have passed since then, and I keep asking the lady at our charity if she had gotten the check, each time she's told me "no". So I finally called that funeral home today to inquire about the donation. Their response: Oh, we always give the donations to the family members to mail in.
I just about fell out of my chair! Of all the stupid things in this world, that ranks right up near the top!! And I told the woman at that funeral home, "so then, the charity might never get the donation. It's okay, I'm family, I can say that", meaning, I know the character of the person it was likely given to, and it's questionable to say the least. It pissed me off is what it did.
I told my friend if she hadn't received the check by next friday (I feel like 1 month is plenty of time for people to get donations mailed in), then I'd issue a stop-payment and re-issue it, mailing it directly to her myself.
So, the lesson I've learned? From now on, I'm going to start mailing my memorial contributions directly to the charity myself, instead of relying on others.
